Dawn Richard "the Dark Horse" is Finally Solo with Save Me From U (SMFU)
Every since her days in Danity Kane I could always tell there was something special about Dawn. As time progressed I realized it was her voice that provided the soul and emotion to Danity Kane and later Dirty Money's hit records. When listening to Dawn, specifically her vocal structuring, adlibs, and harmonies its easy to see that she's a student of Brandy the vocal slayer.
"Save Me From You" is a beautiful yet simple song with a powerful message. The video plays on these characteristics with its simple black and white color scheme and Dawn in various artistically stunning shots. Dawn and co even added some choreography to the mix to ensure the video was a winner. I have to say the video is a major winner. Dawn could easily become the break out R&B star of the year.

Although I'm tired of the Brandy comparisons, because I feel Dawn has her own sound, I agree with the fact that Dawn is Uber talented. I've been waiting a long time for her to begin her solo career. She is waaaaay outside the box, & personally, I'm trying to get out the box with her. Dawn is just amazing, plain & simple. Thank u for this report on her & Dawn, thank u for ur uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteI agree, comparisons can suck for artist attempting to define themselves, but we live a society that needs "reference points" to help understand or accept people or concepts that are possibly new to them. I also agree that Dawn is the ish and will be a force to be reckoned with this year.
